Reading Notes: Shri Krishna of Dwarka and Other Stories, Part A

Krishna was a troublesome child. Though it seemed that everyone was out to get him he was able to survive so many instances that could have and almost should have caused his death. -when Putana tried to kill him by having him suckle on her poisonous breast he ended up sucking the life out of her instead, immune to the poison (she was sent by king Kansa btw) - He was so strong he broke the crib after being hungry for a short while, pots and pans falling with him to which he was not crushed by or damaged by the fall. -He was taken by a giant demon in the for of a whirlwind/tornado, only to be found and seen throwing the giant around by the neck like a toy. -He started stealing milk and butter at a very young age, too young to be believable, even knocking over a pot of churned milk by himself. - He cannot have things tied around his waist by mortals, and he could still drag the mortal he was tied to around, breaking trees with it (these trees ended up being cursed sons of Kubera) -

Week 9 Story: Ash, Son of Drona

Ash was born special. His father had prayed for a son like him to Shiva for many years, a son who could live up to Shiva's name, and his virtues. So Ash was born, a young baby boy with a gem in his head. This gem was special, as it gave Ash the ability to slightly control the emotions of those around him. Growing up, Ash used this gem to coerce his instructors to train him harder in combat. It was only a bonus that this gem also kept him from thirst, hunger, and fatigue, so Ash could train all day and night. He was charismatic, and everyone throughout his lifetime loved him, and being around him. His long thick hair was only a help in his love life.            Ashwatthaman and Shiva . Ash didn't grow up with luxuries in life, his family was poor, often surviving off of scraps. So Ash was humble, always treating others with respect and kindness. It wasn't long before his kingdom was at war, and as the good man he was he volunteered to fight alongside his people,

Mahabarta Reading Notes D (EC)

Ashwatthaman and Shiva . -Gem of Ashwatthaman gives him the power over living beings lower than humans, and protects him from hunger, fatigue, and thirst. -He grew up in a poor family, a son of Dronacharya who prayed to lord Shiva for a son of the same valiance. -Ashw became a bloodthirsty individual, slaughtering many in his raid of the Pandava camp. -His father Drona was killed because of his rumored death, in his grief becoming weak. -He commanded Kiravas in the the Kurukshetra War. -He is eventually embodied by Shiva/becomes a rudra (?) in his rage to get revenge, his sacrifice being himself. -He got revenge on his fathers death by killing Duryodhana, his father’s killer, in his raid on Pandavas. -his two allies  Kripa and  Kritavarman helped him in this slaughter -Ash tried very hard to finish his promise of killing all the Pandavas, even attempting to kill the unborn child of Uttara to end the Pandavas for

Week 8 Progress

Looking back at my blog I definitely feel it’s coming along great. I will say it feels empty in some aspects as I have been skipping on doing some reading notes. I often do my post very last minute, but this is a commonality between all my classes. I feel the “grace period” as just an extended deadline so I often just wait to complete the posts in the morning. That’s not to say I’m not busy because I am as this is my final semester at OU and I am taking a lot of film production classes. I want to try to change up my blog post schedules to help with the last minute timing..may be difficult at first but I think it’s doable. I’d also love to write more descriptively, put more details into the characters and their environments. I still don’t think I need to change the appearances of my blogs, I like their simple looks. Personal photo of me, my dogs, and my parents dogs.  I know this photo doesn’t exactly seem “motivating”, but it makes me  happy which in turn lightens my mood an

Week 8 Comments and Feedback

comments I have recieved have been kind and often helpful. I like reading what other students have felt about my stories. I also love to see people responding to my introduction and enjoying the pictures of my dogs. Many student have left very helpful feedback that encourages me to expand on my stories. Sometimes I feel my feedback is useless. I often tell students how I enjoyed their stories and what I had hoped to see more of. Sometimes it’s hard to critically analyze ofher students work and to point them in a direction they may be respondsnt to. I really enjoy reading other blogs, specifically introductions. I have seen some cool storybooks and some good stories in other student’s portfolios that encourage me to try harder in this course, I just often don’t have the time to fine tune and polish all of my posts. I do think every blog has a personality, just as mine reflects the simplicity I like in my life. I think I should actually enact some of the advice I’ve been give on my

Week 8 Reading and Writing

So far this semester I have felt that my stories have been great. My reading notes haven’t really changed much, and I’m not exactly one to change how I initially percieve the readings and change them in the notes. Often my notes consist of simple facts about the story that I can adjust in my own retellings later. I’m finding it a little bit difficult to go more outside the box with my stories, I often wont change a lot about the originals besides a few facts/the charater names. I aim to just retell the story to make it easier to understand or more interesting to read. I’d say I could work towards making my stories more creative, and that would probably start by taking my notes more outside the box and have them be less conventional. My favorite story to write and improve upon has been my first story and first portfolio story “The She Demon and the Prince”. I loved changing it up and emphasizing Shurpa’s lust for Rama on top of her greed. This is based off the Ramayana, which I have

Week 7 Story: Adventure Amongst the Clouds

Ari desired more than what his life currently entailed. He wanted to live it to it’s fullest. Ari was a simple man, but being simple wasn’t enough. One day, he saught his fortune from a local psychic, who in turned told him to travel to the mountains and honor the gods to find his destiny. Ari prepared a large backpack and some humble meals for the long travel. He already was a religious man, so he had easily packed all his praying equipment. So began Ari’s long journey up the mountainside. Every morning he would pray and meditate for 3 hours, he’d brought offerings, enough for every day he woke up in the mountains. It was one morning when Ari was meditating when he heard an animal approaching. It was a boar, with anger in it’s eyes and an intent to kill. Ari looking longingly at the boar, it had been a while since he’d had a decent meal, and his offerings to the god during his morning rituals were diminishing. A boar would be a feed him and his praying for the days to come. S
